EMDR is an evidence-based mental health treatment method, used to heal trauma. Research has shown that EMDR works quicker than other treatment methods used for similar treatment goals.
This technique involves an individual to focus on a specific memory or experience, while a trained provider guides bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or listening to alternating sounds) which encourages the brain to heal naturally. From this method, the goal is to reduce the emotional intensity and overwhelm that comes from traumatic memories, allowing them to process and integrate these experiences in a healthier way.
